Cartographic Documentation: Juan Negrín Archive
The Juan Negrín Foundation makes available 470 cartographic documents belonging to the Juan Negrín Archive. This important collection covers the period 1875–1939 and includes a large amount of cartographic material from the period during which Negrín served as Minister of National Defence. Most of the documents were produced by the Geographic Institute and include maps of different types and scales, some of them handwritten, as well as maps and front-line sketches drawn by hand on tracing paper in different colours.
Among other materials, visitors can consult the original cartography used by the Republican Army, under the command of General Rojo, during the Battle of the Ebro between 25 July and 13 November 1938. The maps make it possible to follow troop advances and retreats through handwritten notes and drawn lines.
